Recently, I had a conversation with someone about my pricing, and they were surprised to learn how affordable my services are. There’s a common misconception in the photography world that low prices mean you’re either new to the game or not as skilled. But that’s not always true—please keep reading.
I began taking photos for my own family because I couldn’t justify the high prices of hiring another photographer. And I wasn’t thrilled with what I could get from retail photo studios. Over time, I started offering sessions for friends and family, and eventually expanded. Photography experts say I should have raised my prices along the way, but I made a conscious decision to keep them accessible.
Part of this choice comes from my own experience. When I was a senior, I had my senior portraits taken at Sears. My mom offered to cover half the cost of the local photographer’s fee; instead, I opted for a more affordable session at Sears Portrait Studio, and we had a great day out together, we even had enough left over to go out to lunch.
That memory sticks with me, and it is why I am committed to offering our community great photos at an affordable price. It is my hope that you’ll “make a day of it,” and take your senior out to lunch or dinner after.
